Using Aperture and Bokeh in Photography - Harold Boas Garden at 9.30am
Aperture is a tool for controlling the depth of field in an image, and choosing what areas are placed in focus. We’ll be exploring how to use aperture creatively, as well as playing with bokeh.
We have a different photo theme each fortnight and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations across Perth. Great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer, and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.
Complete beginner? We recommend starting with the Photography for Beginners Class, which is a 3 hour structured workshop where you’ll learn the basics of using your camera with more 1-on-1 time with the instructor.
Looking to learn more? Come along to the group sessions, which are more casual and informal than other workshops, and with more time to take photos and put your new skills into practice.
What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!
What’s involved? Each session starts with an introduction to the fortnight’s theme, and the photography instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You’ll then have time to take lots of photos, with the instructor present to answer any questions. You’ll receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We’re a social bunch!
Architectural photography can be a great way of exploring and documenting a city, whether it’s your home or on holiday. We’ll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use.
Fremantle offers us a great mixture of old buildings, 1960s buildings and new renovations so we have plenty of scope for our theme this week.
Light and Shadow in Photography - John Oldham Park at 11am
Harsh light and the contrast between light and shadow can provide some interesting photo opportunities, as well as some challenges! We’ll be looking at how you can use your camera’s settings to nail the exposure.
Urban photography is all about exploring your local town or city, and capturing the smaller, often grittier details that are often overlooked. Join this photo walk as we look at how to photograph a mix of architecture, industrial details and street scenes.
Water can provide some amazing photo opportunities, and has been a source of inspiration for many great photographers. In this session will be looking at a range of camera settings to use when photographing water, from freezing action to long exposures. A tripod and ND filters would be beneficial (but not essential) for this session.
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We’ll be looking at composition, focus and colour whilst on a photo walk around the zoo.
- Please note: an entry fee will be payable to the zoo on arrival and is not included in the photo session ticket -
